I want to talk today about focus. What are you focused on? Focus is the key to life. When you don’t have clarity of purpose and priorities, you allow others to run your life; make decisions for you. The world insists on endless energy and activity and often blocks out the important things. As Jack Canfield writes in the book the Power of Focus, as well as part of Steven Covey’s 7 Habits, when your priorities are clear, its easy to say ‘no’ to things that will distract you or things that will have negative consequences. Covey says its easy to say ‘no’ when you have a burning ‘yes’ inside. So I ask you as the title of today’s blog mentions, are you focused at looking in the mirror? Do you focus on yourself? Is it all about YOU? If you’re a follower of Jesus, you should realize that its NOT about you (or me.) It should be about HIM. We must die to self. If that’s how you’re living, then you don’t have a mirror but you’re peering through a lens looking to the heart of God. You’ll want to understand His heart for the lost. You’ll want to understand His will for other people, those he’s put in your path. You’ll want to see people as God does. As we look through that lens, we can throw away the mirror on self. We can begin to do what matters most in living as a believer, and forget everything else.
