There is joy in simplicity. Do you feel like you have enough? The world, especially today’s marketing and advertising, would tell you that there’s never enough. “Want” and lack of having it and having it NOW, can grow into bitterness, envy, anger, and even greed. So if you truly look at it, what is unnecessary in your life? Another thing to look at is what is your identity connected to – does your “stuff” define you? If so, then you’ll always have to keep up the image, keep getting more or other stuff, and working away from simplicity and into the confusing, the distracting, and the complex. If you’re a follower of Christ, do you strive for things other than Him? Is this constant striving for things the world values causing you anxiety and even fear? How about in your relationships – expecting things of people for which you should be looking to God? The cure for the complex, the frustrating, the distractions, stress, anxiety and fear is the peace and simplicity of God. Turn your eyes to Jesus as the hymn says, and let God supply all your needs.
